Andres Canovas led this session of the Unit. The background thinking and inspiration is set out in this document. MANUSCRIPT
1. CONCEPT
Inspired by the exhibition project: ’Indelible’/Inscription on the Body:
• From its most external and visual aspects: aging, tattoo, prosthetics, etc.
• To its deepest psychological implications -“the relationships we share with our physical selves”- which somehow implies the co-existence of more than one self in one individual.
2. INPUTS
Sample images:
From ancient prehistoric remains to recent artworks by highly acclaimed contemporary artists.
From original pieces to copies.
Definitions:
Inscribe: write or carve & contain
Indelible: permanent & unforgettable
Manuscript: hand written & ancient & original
Three wide concept remains:
MARK MAKING + PERMANENCE/ENDURANCE + AUTHENTICITY

3. EXERCISE:
One single pose:
Circular, involved within himself.
Related to body modification: shaving and circumcision.
Manuscript in the background and on the subject.
Structure:

17:30 – 18:30: inscribe on the model’s skin
18:30 – 20:00: life drawing/painting
