Neil Groom led this meeting of the Unit. The Beauty of Line. He introduced the session with these four worksheets:
We examined varied examples of line use by different artists, both representational and abstract – and considered how the quality of line affected the portrayal of the figure of the ‘figurative’. To start with, we began by dividing a page up to record a ‘vocabulary’ of marks without looking at the model – that we could refer to later on in our drawings from the model. We began with short, very dynamic poses and gradually progressed to longer poses where we could explore more layering techniques.
