The starting point for these works is the idea that we are all made from other people.
This can take the form of our genes re-making us from fragments of our ancestors. We are also shaped by the influences from the people with whom we have engaged through our lives. And maybe there is a thought that future medical-tech will enable recycling of demised body parts which goes way beyond the current ability to transplant organs.
Originally these were sketches taken directly from a collaboration with the model. It was an attempt to capture the movement, the traces, the moment, the gestures of that person and their body at certain instances in time.
Afterwards, the absence of the body creates a vacuum and therefore the opportunity for imaginative development arises in response to the original mark marking. Invoking HI (human intelligence) to provide “generative fill”, the filling in of the blanks is fed directly from my own instincts. It becomes an accumulation of the iterations of the mark making and responding, which leads to paintings that are extrapolated from the original intent.
