Soundless Damage

The title of this work is taken from An Arundel Tomb by Philip Larkin. This piece began life as the form work for another piece about identity- the difference in how we perceive ourselves and how we are perceived by others. It references the construction methods of medieval cathedrals, with flying buttresses supporting flimsy walls. What comes out of the making is an incomplete effigy which echoes the tombs of powerful people in such cathedrals. This soul, however, is rendered part-constructed and voiceless within a glass dome. The work communicates that even unplanned outcomes can be venerated, and difference celebrated.
