Andres Canovas ran this session of the Unit.
Here we are going to tackle the artist’s process of detaching himself from the art piece by trying to remove both his fingerprints and his subjectivity from his work.
Detachment and objectification have been successfully explored by many artists and artistic movements through the possibilities of geometry and scientific analysis.
In previous sessions we have approached cubism and other art movements. Today we will focus on some of the most influential movements of the late XX Century: Pop Art, Psychedelia, Op Art and Kinetic Art.
EXERCISE: today’s challenge is to create pieces using exclusively-geometric lines and sharp edged shapes of pure flat colors.
